Program Scholar
Anthony Edwards, Professor of Greek and Latin Literature
University of California at San Diego
Anthony Edwards is a professor of Greek and Latin Literature at the University of California at San Diego. He was trained at the University of Utah (BA in Latin and MA in Classics) and at Cornell University (PhD Classics). He has taught at the University of Michigan and at UCSD, and enjoyed a year as junior fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C. Edwards’ most important publications are his books Achilles in the Odyssey: Ideologies of Heroism in the Homeric Epic (Meisenheim 1985) and Hesiod’s Ascra (UC Press 2004). He has also published articles on Greek epic and comedy. His current research projects focus on the geography of countryside and city in the literature of the Archaic and Classical periods in ancient Greece and on the figure of the kolax (the toady, brownnoser) in Classical Athens. Edwards has been an avid fan and supporter of Peter Meineck’s work for close to two decades.
